Hi Friends,

Things are starting to really move around the farm these days. We have new babies, a brand new product, and a special announcement!

Last Wednesday we received our first batch of chickens. These guys will be ready for delivery in early June. If you would like to order some vaccine-free, organically-fed, pasture-raised chickens, we still have some available for the 2026 season.

Saturday morning chores included this sweet mama introducing us to her newly-arrived calf. It’s a girl!

We are also excited to announce that we have our first round of grass-fed, grass-finished, vaccine-free lamb available! We will be processing this fall, and we are taking pre-orders. now on our shop page.

Welcome to 2026! We had a wonderful 2025, and we are looking forward to another year of providing our customers in southern Wisconsin with wholesome meat from here on the Cadwell farm. Read to the end for info regarding upcoming chicken pre-orders!

We had a cold snap hit us through most of the month of December, along with plenty of snow.
But a couple weeks ago we had a lovely bit of warm weather come through, which melted the snow enough to let the sheep get out and graze a bit of winter stockpile.

And the cattle seemed quite pleased, in their quiet way, to have a break from the sub-zero days and to do a little grazing around what’s left of the snow.

Hi friends,

We hope that you have been enjoying the last weeks of fall. November brought us some sweet moments here at the Cadwell farm.

A sweet little lamb arrived the week before Thanksgiving, and due to changes to the mineral, this lambing went very well. We were pleased to see that this little guy has way more energy than our arrivals last spring.

This month, we started supplementing the cattle that are on pasture with some hay, and we have confirmed that some new calves will join the herd as early as March.

Autumn of 2025 marked our fifth year of helping some local farmers bring in their harvest.

Hi Friends,

These last two months have flown by, and we have had a lot happen on the farm.

This last month we built a second set of chicken tractors, doubling the number of chickens we are able to provide next year. The sheep are continuing to graze lots of green grass, even as the growth has started to slow down slightly.

The cattle are also doing well, and the calves are growing like weeds!

The first round of this year’s chicken deliveries is complete. We count it a privilege to provide all of you with drug-free, organically-fed, pasture-raised chicken.

Also, all the cattle are loving all this rain that we have been having.

And the lamb that was born this spring is doing very well and enjoying more than her fair share of the pasture 🙂

Hi Friends,

We are back again with our June update on what has been happening here on our farm this last month. ????

​

Our first batch of chickens were moved out to pasture just a couple of weeks ago. We are also looking forward to our second batch of chickens that will be arriving on farm tomorrow!

​

The sheep have now officially been able to be out on pasture for the last week or so. They are very happy to be out on green grass instead of having to eat dry hay.

Our cows have also had their calves this last month. One was born on Memorial Day, and the other one had twins a couple weeks earlier. And they are all doing very well!

Hi Friends,

Spring has most definitely sprung around here! We have had so many things happen on the farm since we last updated you almost two months ago.

​

We received our first of three batches of chickens for this year.

They are doing very well and are growing extremely fast. We are keeping them in the brooder to help keep them warm until they are about three weeks old which is when they will be able to regulate their own body temperature and go out to fresh pasture.

The sheep have been begging to go on pasture since about the beginning of March. We had them on pasture for a little bit but had to move them back to the yard due to some challenges with the fencing. They seem to be content with the hay for now. But I’m looking forward to putting them out on some grass again!

We are also very excited about the newest addition to our farm this month of a couple of beef cows! This girl on the left will be having a calf sometime at the end of May or beginning of June!

Hi Friends,

This last month was spent doing a bit of fine-tuning of our preparations for the rest of the production year.

This year we are so excited to have received access to some more acreage nearby. This will give us some more room for our operation, which will allow us to graze the sheep on more of the pasture here at home and raise the chickens on the new pasture.

We also had to update our watering system for the chickens because the new pasture does not have any water on it.

We are looking forward to our first batch of baby chicks that will be arriving later this month.

Our second, and last ewe had her lamb a couple weeks ago, but sadly, due to some complications, the lamb did not make it. The mama is doing well, and thanks to a fellow farmer’s suggestion, I will plan on breeding her again to have some lambs this fall! ????

We hope to send you all another update in May, but due to the busy spring season, it may be delayed by a bit.

Hi Friends,

Thank you to everyone who was involved with the chicken pre-orders! We completely sold out on what we had available this year!

I’m excited as we move into this next month. As things are starting to ramp up, we are figuring out some of our final details for the season, and we are enjoying the wonderful warm weather!

​

The orange marks on the lamb and ewe are paint markings for record keeping.

On Sunday, February 16th, we also had our first baby lamb arrive. We are so happy to have this next part of the sheep journey underway! The lamb is doing very well and bouncing all over the place on these warm days! ????

Hi all,

Welcome to 2025!!????????

This has been somewhat of a slow month in regards to most of the visible farm work, but we are excited to be doing a bit of planning for next year, including getting ready for the farm’s first lambing coming this spring! (Sometime in March or April.)

Most of our work this last month has been looking at records and making a lot of the scheduling decisions for this next season.

❄ The sheep do not seem mind the cold at all these days. In fact, they seem to like it! ❄
